Gilbert The Dragon arrives for summer in Salisbury

Salisbury's popular summer resident, Gilbert The Dragon, has proudly taken his place on the centre of the Market Place ready for a busy summer in the city.

The flower dragon has been a part of Salisbury since 1999 and local people traditionally associate his arrival with marking the beginning of the summer.

Gilbert attracts large amounts of attention from residents and visitors. Standing 8ft tall and weighing over 1.5 tonnes, his body is made up of a variety of bedding plants.

400 colourful hanging baskets, flower towers and railing planters also arrived in the city centre at the same time as Gilbert's arrival, as part of Salisbury City Council's commitment to creating a welcoming and vibrant city centre.
