Film: Lord of the Flies
William Golding’s tale of schoolboys stranded on a Pacific island who regress into increasingly savage behaviour began life in Salisbury.
Golding taught at Bishop Wordsworth’s School, and it was while observing pupils that the idea for the novel took form.
This special screening as part of the Salisbury International Arts Festival is introduced by former Bishop Wordsworth’s schoolmaster John Cox, who knew Golding well.
He is joined for a Q&A after the film by William Golding’s daughter Judy Carver.
