In 2027, Salisbury celebrates 800 years since the city’s foundation: a once-in-a-generation opportunity. A city-wide, cross-organisation, six-month celebration is being planned and there are 3 key themes guiding the entire programme...
This six-month city-wide celebration will reflect our Living Heritage and Enduring Spirit, rooted in the extraordinary story of a city that chose to relocate and reinvent itself.
We’ll celebrate:
- The diverse history that shaped Salisbury - from Stonehenge to the Spitfires.
- Our traditions of craft, culture, and community.
- The people and stories that make Salisbury unique.
This is a moment to look back with pride, and forward with confidence.
Salisbury 800 is powered by creativity in all its forms, from our established cultural institutions to emerging local talent.
We’ll celebrate and commission new work by the exceptional artists, performers, writers and creatives who call Salisbury home, including our nationally recognised organisations.
At the same time, we’ll nurture grassroots creativity through grant programmes, mentoring and open calls, helping new voices find their place in Salisbury’s cultural story.
By blending heritage and innovation, tradition and experimentation, we aim to create a city-wide chorus of creative expression: one that reflects the whole community.
Salisbury 800 is for everyone, and everyone has a role to play.
