A taste of Kerala in Salisbury. Elai, owned by Nidhin & Unni, is a riverside restaurant serving delicious, authentic South Indian cuisine. Elai Salisbury opened in August 2023 following the great success of their Basingstoke restaurant, which they opened back in 2021. Nidhin and Unni knew the Salisbury area and, as there wasnât a South Indian restaurant here at the time, decided our modern medieval city was a great choice for their second location.
All of the dishes on the Elai menu are regional, incorporating depths of flavour thanks to their spices made from scratch. From dosas to biryanis, thereâs something for everyone, no matter your spice preference. Alongside all of their traditional dishes, Elai also offer Afternoon Tea, adding a South Indian twist to the typical afternoon tea offering. This tasty treat can require up to 48 hours' notice, so be sure to book ahead to avoid disappointment.
Fancy recreating the signature flavours of Elai at home? Keep an eye out for their regular cooking classes. Happening once every three months, âthese classes are led by their friendly chefs and provide the opportunity to learn how to create delicious dishes from scratch, and then enjoy them afterwards.
Or, if youâd prefer to just enjoy the taste of South India at home, without needing to do any cooking, Elai also have a vast takeaway menu. Takeaways are available from Wednesday to Monday, for both lunch and dinner.
Alongside their food offering, Elai also have an extensive drinks menu including both cocktails and mocktails. With stunning views of the river and calming interiors, Elai is a great spot for an evening drink or two.
