Come along to our free family art and craft activities every Wednesday from 23 July – 27 August 2025.

The following activities are free included with an admission ticket to Salisbury Cathedral. Residents in SP1–SP5 are eligible for free admission tickets with proof of address. No need to book for the activity, just drop in and join the fun!

23 July, 9:30-15:00: River Bugs and Water Lilies
Bring your little ones to enjoy a creative craft activity inspired by the natural world around Salisbury Cathedral. Children can decorate and fold their own paper water lilies—take them home, place them in water, and watch as they magically bloom! Young imaginations can also run wild creating their very own fantastical paper river bugs.
Discover more about the nearby Harnham Water Meadows with a display from the charity that protects the meadows. Pick up a free map and follow the scenic circular walk from the Cathedral grounds to the meadows.
Don’t forget to pick up our free summer activity trail to help you explore the building!
All materials are provided, and our friendly education volunteers will be on hand to help. Your children can take their creations home as a keepsake of their day at the Cathedral.

30 July, 9:30-15:00: Clay and Collage Fish Decorations
Design a clay fish hanging decoration using a variety of stamps, textures, and tools to make a truly unique piece of art.
Make a paper collage fish with vibrant colours and patterns using a mix of textured and coloured papers to bring it to life.

6 August, 09:30-15:00: Painting and Mask Making
Experiment with paints to explore how water can be represented through colour, shape, and movement. Then bring your scene to life by adding silhouette fish to complete your watery masterpiece.
Continue the fun by decorating your own mask inspired by the creatures you might spot in or around water. Will you become a dragonfly gliding above the surface, or a curious frog hiding in the reeds? The choice is yours!

13 August, 09:30-15:00: Make Your Own Fishing Game
Design and craft your very own magnetic fishing game. Once it’s made, challenge your friends and family to see who can catch the most!

20 August, 09:30-15:00: Paper Crafts and Origami
Take inspiration from Ryan Moseley’s striking artworks on display in the Cathedral and create your own moving boat scene using paper plates, card, and a splash of creativity.
Then, try your hand at the Japanese art of origami and fold a delicate boat or fish. It’s simple to learn and fun to master!
All materials are provided, and our friendly education volunteers will be on hand to help. Your children can take their creations home as a keepsake of their day at the Cathedral.

27 August, 09:30-15:00: Decorate Your Own Swimming Bag
In this final week of our summer family activities, design your very own swimming bag using vibrant fabric crayons.
Add to the fun by trying your hand at origami. Fold a delicate boat or fish using this traditional Japanese paper craft.
