Top summer essentials from Salisbury indies

With schools finally out for the summer, it’s time to focus on the holidays!

The summer break this year will once again be governed by Covid-19, with more of us planning staycations rather than flying abroad.

Whatever your plans, you can pick-up all your summer holiday essentials in Salisbury.

As part of our Independents Month campaign, we’ve put together some summer essential ideas from our wonderful indie shops.

Book a stop-off at Rocketship

Keep the children entertained this summer holiday thanks to The Rocketship Bookshop, Bridge Street. Their puzzle and game books will occupy the kids at home, away, or on long journeys. If you’re planning outdoor adventures, their nature spotting books will help the children learn more about the world around them.

Summer style with an eco twist

etica boutique is a new indie on St Thomas’ Square that puts sustainability and the environment at the heart of what they offer.  These gorgeous sandals are not only stylish and comfortable but are handmade and eco-friendly. There are also picnic rugs and holiday bags made from recycled plastic. Being kind to the environment has never looked so good!

Men’s summer fashion finds

Keep cool during the summer months with these linen shirts offered by Chas H Baker on Milford Street. They also have linen trousers, shorts and summer hats to complete the look!  And, if you’re looking for a summer scent, the men’s fashion store stocks a range of toiletries including shaving soaps and fragrances.

A snappy summer

The summer holidays are often over in a flash, so make sure you record the magical moments with a new camera from Castle Cameras on Endless Street. If you’re a nature fan, and are heading out into the wild, the indie store also sells binoculars to help make the most of your trip. And, with a range of camera accessories, there is nowhere else you need to go to make sure your summer holidays are picture perfect!

Designer summer sunnies

Protect your eyes in style at Memory Opticians on Catherine Street. They have a whole range of sunglasses including collections from top designers. Many of the designs can also have prescription lenses added if needed. Maui Jim, Ray Ban, Oakley and Serengeti can all be found here.

Splash of summer colour

Head to Anokhi on the High Street for a summer glow! The women’s fashion boutique stocks clothes made from natural fabrics that will bring a splash of colour to any wardrobe. Pick out a colourful hat, summer wrap or cute make-up bag to add to your summer essentials.

Top-off your summer coverings

Salisbury’s Hat Shop in the Maltings has all your hat needs covered, no matter your age. Whether you want something more formal or a casual covering for the beach, you’ll find it here.

We all known the coronavirus pandemic has had an overwhelming effect on businesses, especially those that were forced to close through three lockdowns. We are now looking to the future and an ongoing recovery. Shopping local really does help this - whatever month it is! By keeping money in the local economy we are supporting our businesses and keeping the high street open.

We can all do our bit during Independents Month and beyond. You can find a full list of all our indie shops here.
