Join the Salisbury Branch of the Royal British Legion and Salisbury City Council on Friday 15 August at 5.30pm at Salisbury’s War Memorial, in commemorating the 80th anniversary of Victory over Japan Day (VJ Day). VJ Day marks the day Japan announced its surrender, ending the Second World War.
The Salisbury Band of the Royal British Legion will provide music from 5.30pm and a short Act of Remembrance will begin at 6pm. The service will provide an opportunity for everyone to pause for a moment and reflect on the many millions of people who died during this conflict, as well as pay tribute to those who fought and died for the freedom we all enjoy today.
This event will take place alongside Fayre on the Square on the Guildhall Square, encouraging wider community participation and providing a welcoming atmosphere for reflection and connection afterwards. Please note that the serving of food and drink, as well as games and activities, will pause during the Act of Remembrance.
