Kenneth Padley’s Kingdom Buildings is a new book which explores the vital contribution of church buildings to Christian mission and growth. Churches are often experienced as a burden by those who must care for them, but this resource suggests ways in which they can be gifts for community flourishing. Blending theology, ecclesiology and practicality, it advocates the importance of doing the right thing for the long term, while showing how minor changes can be achieved cheaply, generate momentum, and have a big effect. It also considers issues of access and carbon reduction, both of which present particular challenges in heritage contexts.
During this event, author Kenneth Padley will be exploring some of these themes in conversation with Andrew Rumsey, lead bishop for church and cathedral buildings in the Church of England.
