Renowned local artist Nick Andrew makes a very welcome return to Fisherton Mill to showcase his latest plein air drawing project entitled 'Confluence'.
'Confluence' is the result of many months spent researching and drawing the sources, tributaries and confluences of the five rivers (Avon, Bourne, Ebble, Nadder and Wylye) which define and shape the geography of South Wiltshire, flowing towards and through Salisbury.
Nick's mixed media drawings have been made on location throughout the seasons and in all weathers, exploring rivers and streams from flooded winter torrents in full flow, through to dried-up winterbornes in the summer heat. The drawings are made using mixed media (pen, wax pastel, watercolour, ink and stick, oil base pencils) on Saunders Waterford HP watercolour paper with each drawing having a written narrative of things experienced on location, such as wildlife, sounds, the weather and more.
Previous drawing projects exhibited at Fisherton Mill include: ‘SPiRE’ in 2023, exploring the dramatic and varied landscapes looking back towards Salisbury Cathedral spire, guided by 32 points of the compass. And ‘A Gap in the Market’ in 2021, illustrating a year in the life of Salisbury Charter Market.
