In recent years a number of new theories have been developed about the development of New Sarum.
This talk will explore the earliest records of New Sarum, what ‘Old Salisburies’ meant, and the different theories and events. All these aspects converge on the 1227 Charter. The Charter’s clauses will be discussed as well as the national politics and trends which led up to it.
